As said in this issue, after following the steps in documentation, the ckeditor image dialog stopped working (because of an error with plugin.js). To avoid that, once the picture groups/mapping are set, you should go to, .../admin/config/media/picture/settings to find more settings of these groups related to ckeditor, and check the checkbox "Include xxx picture mapping in the CKEditor image dialog". You need at least one group with this option checked, otherwise the image dialog crashes.
